Connecting Google Workspace to Lastline gives you automatic employee synchronization, centralized signature deployment, and the ability to manage every Gmail signature from one dashboard. This guide walks you through the full setup in under 10 minutes.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, make sure you have:
- A Google Workspace account with Super Admin privileges
- Access to the Google Admin Console
- A Lastline account (any plan — free tier works)
Not a Super Admin? No problem. During setup, Lastline lets you send step-by-step instructions directly to your IT administrator so they can complete the connection on your behalf.
Two Ways to Connect
Lastline offers two connection modes. Choose the one that fits your needs:
- Full Connect (recommended) — Syncs your entire directory and deploys email signatures directly to Gmail. Requires Super Admin privileges and Domain-Wide Delegation setup.
- Quick Connect — A simpler OAuth-based option that syncs your directory but cannot deploy signatures automatically. Good for getting started quickly, and you can upgrade to Full Connect later.
This guide covers the Full Connect setup. Quick Connect is a one-click Google sign-in that skips the Domain-Wide Delegation steps below.
Step 1: Start the Setup Wizard
In your Lastline dashboard:
- Go to Integrations from the sidebar.
- Click Connect on the Google Workspace card.
- Select Full Connect (the recommended option) and proceed to the next step.
Step 2: Set Up Domain-Wide Delegation
The setup wizard shows you a Client ID and a list of OAuth scopes. You need to add these to your Google Admin Console:
- Copy the Client ID and OAuth scopes from the Lastline wizard (there are copy buttons for both).
- Click the Open Google Admin Console link in the wizard — it takes you directly to the Domain-Wide Delegation page.
- In the Google Admin Console, click Add new under the API clients list.
- Paste the Client ID and the OAuth scopes, then click Authorize.
The scopes grant read-only access to your directory (users, groups, org units) and write access to Gmail signatures — nothing more. Lastline never accesses email content.
Step 3: Configure Your Connection
Back in the Lastline wizard, enter your connection details:
- Admin Email — The Super Admin email Lastline will use to access your directory.
- Google Workspace Domain — Your organization's domain (e.g., yourcompany.com).
- Sync options — Choose what to sync: Users, Groups, and Org Units. You can also restrict sync to your domain only and choose whether to include suspended accounts.
Click Test & Continue to verify the connection before finalizing.
Step 4: Review and Connect
The final step shows a summary of your configuration — connection type, admin email, domain, and sync options. Review everything and click Confirm & Connect.
Lastline immediately syncs your employee directory. This includes names, emails, job titles, departments, and profile photos. Once the initial sync completes, you're ready to deploy signatures.

With your directory synced, here's what you can do next:
- Create a signature template — Design your company's email signature with dynamic fields that auto-populate from your directory.
- Set up assignment rules — Target specific departments, org units, or groups with different signature designs.
- Deploy to Gmail — Push signatures directly to each employee's Gmail. Employees don't need to do anything — their signatures are updated automatically.
- Exclude employees who need custom signatures — Learn more in our guide to excluding employees.
Subsequent syncs happen automatically on a schedule, and you can trigger a manual sync at any time from the integration detail page.
Troubleshooting
"Connection failed" error
Make sure Domain-Wide Delegation is configured correctly in the Google Admin Console with the exact Client ID and scopes from the Lastline wizard. Changes can take up to 15 minutes to propagate on Google's side.
Missing employees after sync
By default, suspended Google accounts are excluded from sync. If you need to include them, enable the "Include suspended users" option in your connection settings. Also check whether you restricted sync to a specific domain.
Signatures not appearing in Gmail
Gmail can take a few minutes to reflect deployed signatures. Ask the employee to refresh their compose window or open a new tab. If the issue persists, check the deployment logs in your Lastline dashboard.
Not a Super Admin?
During setup, click the "Not a Super Admin?" link to send step-by-step setup instructions to your IT administrator. They'll receive everything they need to complete the Domain-Wide Delegation step on your behalf.
